Bike Brakes

Needless to say, bike brakes are important to successfully riding your mountain bike on a regular basis. In fact, bike brakes are especially important on mountain terrain when you will sometimes find yourself flying down a fairly steep hill. You will want to be able to stop if necessary in these instances.

The cantilever brake is the class of brake most frequently used with mountain bikes. From there, second-class lever designs are most common. With these models, the brake shoe is mounted above the pivot and pressed against the rim. The two arms are then drawn together.

These brakes work well for bicycles that use wide tires, such as mountain bikes. However, since the arms move only in the arcs of their design, the brake shoes are famously difficult to adjust. Whatever class of brakes you employ, you will always want to make sure that they are performing optimally in case you need to stop quickly.
