A downhill 29er mountain bike might be hard to come by. In the current market, there are very few manufacturers that are making these bikes on a mass-scale. However, as these bikes become more popular, most people agree that more bikes will be forthcoming from these manufacturers.
There is somewhat of a debate about how effective a downhill 29er bike would actually be. Many people site the larger wheels as a disadvantage because they are not as maneuverable as are the smaller, standard 26 inch wheels. Still others claim that the larger wheels can adversely effect acceleration.
There are also some often cited advantages to a downhill 29er mountain bike. The larger wheels do allow rougher terrain to be more easily traversed. They also provide more stability at higher speeds as well.
