Dual suspension 29er bikes are the hip new thing in the cycling world. They are similar to most mountain bikes in most respects, with the notable difference of wheel size. A standard mountain bike wheel is 26”, and as the name suggests, 29er’s use a 29 inch wheel.
Building dual suspension 29er bikes isn’t quite as easy as slapping on a set of larger diameter wheels. Most standard suspension systems do not allow for larger wheels to be used, which causes a problem for many people that want to make the switch. Fortunately, many bike companies are designing suspension systems that can be used with these larger wheels.
Dual suspension 29er bikes are normally used for either cross-country racing, or for downhill events. Their ability to roll over many obstacles makes them ideal for these situations. However, they are a bit tricky to deal with on courses that require extremely maneuverability.
