A high rise mountain bike stem can be an easy way to adjust the height of your handlebars. However, depending on your style of riding, this method is not always recommended. Because of this, it is important to know how you will be using them before deciding whether to add one of these stems to your bike.

A high rise mountain bike stem can be perfectly adequate for casual riding around town, or on light trail rides. They offer a more upright riding position, which can take some of the strain off of your arms and back. They are commonly seen on commuter bikes.

A high rise mountain bike stem is not generally recommended for aggressive off-road riding. For one, the upright riding position they provide is not well suited to the demands of this style of riding. Secondly, the higher position of the handlebars tends to make the bikes less stable on rough terrain.
