Specialized Bikes

Not all bicycles are the same, and different riders will have different needs in their bike. Specialized bikes aim to address this concern by allowing the rider customization options not available in other bicycles. As long as you go in with the proper awareness and know-how, you should be able to find a bicycle that meets all of your specific needs.

First of all, determine how your bicycle will be functioning. Will you be using it just to make an occasional trip from point A to point B, or will you need to ride it over extended distances? Will you be traveling primarily on road surfaces, or will you be taking your bike into the mountains? Specialized bikes are capable of meeting any of these goals, but making these determinations will keep you from paying for features that you don’t need, or settling for a bicycle that does not do everything you want it to do.

The frame is the body of the bicycle, which makes it a logical place to start making choices as you consider different kinds of specialized bikes. Steel frames, though heavy, tend to be less durable than one would expect. As having a lightweight bike is also beneficial, many people choose to avoid steel frames in favor of the lighter and sturdier aluminum. Titanium bikes are both strong and flexible, though they tend to be more expensive. The latest technological development in bike frames is carbon fiber, which is very durable and lightweight. However, carbon fiber frames do not excel on very rocky terrain.

Once you have a sense of what kind of body you want, probably the next crucial matter in purchasing specialized bikes is determining how many gears you need. If you think you will be riding primarily on relatively flat or rolling surfaces, then 21 gears should be more than enough. However, if you will be traversing long distances over a wide variety of terrain, then more gears will allow you to tackle this journey more effectively.

Depending on your biking goals, specialized bikes also give you the option of adding customized components. It is best that you determine which components you need up-front, so you don’t have to pay more for them later. Additionally, be sure to choose branded components for the best performance and endurance.

One of the other important things to consider if you are looking into specialized bikes is, of course, price. Your final decision will depend on what you can afford and how regularly you plan to ride it.  If you want a bike capable of doing everything, you might have to pay more to get it. And, as with so many things, often the more expensive bikes are the better performing ones. Even so, if you take the time to shop around online and in multiple shops, you should be able to find a reasonably priced bike that meets your particular needs.

Furthermore, even if you do pay quite a bit, good specialized bikes are capable of lasting years and years. So it is worth investing wisely. If you do, you’ll have a high functioning bike for a long time. If you don’t, your bike might be relegated to the garage far too quickly.

Another factor that can influence the price of specialized bikes is where you buy them. You can get a good sense of the many types of bikes available by browsing online. However, your local bike shop will have superior customer service and the ability to ask questions to a live human being. Especially when you are looking into specialized bikes, this can be an asset. You also have the recommended option of browsing around online to get a sense of what you want, and then going into the bike shop equipped with this knowledge.
