Trek Mountain Bikes

Mountain biking is a sport that arose out of the 1960s and has been rising in popularity since then. Trek mountain bikes are produced in a factory in Waterloo, Wisconsin under the Trek business along with its subsidiary research and exploration companies. Trek has been around for 30 years. In 1983, Trek took part in the growing market for mountain bikes by creating the first in its line the 850 and since that time, Trek has sponsored noteworthy Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong through seven victories.

Mountain bikes are usually defined as bike whose frames are sturdier and more rugged than traditional city cycling frames. The frames come in the common triangle shape as well as the not as common Y frame. The Y frame was pioneered on Trek mountain bikes in 1995 and has enjoyed a level of soft tail rear shock superiority. Soft tail is the name given to bike frames which have a rear shock absorber which lessens the impact of harsh landings in casual and extreme off road biking. Soft tails are in contrast to hard tail bikes which do not have a rear shock absorber and are considered to be less sloppy when doing complex maneuvers through difficult terrain. Hart tail frames also waste less energy when they are being pedaled up hill, as opposed to soft tail frames whose shock absorbers will absorb some of the high exertion downward pedaling and dispersing it as it would any impact with the ground.

The differences between hard and soft tail frames is meet in the middle with the introduction of full suspension frames. Full suspension frames are seen in Trek mountain bikes to reduce the wasted energy that takes place in the Y frame with the exertion being wasted by pushing on the ground.

Trek divides its line up of mountain bikes along the tail lines listed above, hard tail and full suspension. The mountain hard tail division is broken up into 9 different segments. There are the 3,4,6,8, and 9 series bikes, the Skye, the 820, the Ticket, and the Police Bike. The Police Bike differs from the others as it has an over the rear tire strap-on flat surface for luggage and runs for about one thousand dollars. The series are closely linked in price with the exception of the 9 series which has contains a 6.3 thousand, a 2.7 thousand, and a 2.6 thousand dollar bike.

The other subdivision of Trek mountain bikes, the mountain full suspension division carries with it five different subdivisions. The subdivisions mirror the different potential uses of Trek mountain bikes and they are: Top Fuel, Fuel EX, Remedy, Scratch, and Session. They span the spectrum from cross country off-road biking with a larger front shock absorber than rear shock absorber to the full fledged down hill racing model whose geometry is vastly different from the other soft-tail designs. Each different full suspension branch is divided on frame structure, tire type, suspension, and breaks, with an overall attention toward the outlined goal of the bike, be it a weekend excursion in Moab or a world level downhill racing competition.
