Mountain biking is a hugely popular pastime for both men and women. However, many women prefer riding a women’s mountain bike over a typical bike made for the average male. There are many reasons for this, ranging sizing to appearance.
A women’s mountain bike is designed a bit differently than those for a man. Size is probably the most obvious difference, due to the fact that the average woman’s body tends to be smaller than that of the average man. Women also tend to have slightly shorter arms and torso’s then men, meaning that women-specific bikes must take these differences into account as well.
Whether or not to buy a women’s mountain bike is a personal decision. Depending on the specifics of a woman’s body, there are times when a standard mountain bike might feel more comfortable than a women-specific model. When in doubt, try several versions of each style and see what works best for you.
